The hamlet is at the heart of its own 100h nature reserve of mixed forest, garrigue, streams and meadows explorable by 5 trails. We are 70km south of Carcassonne, west of the Mediterranean and north of the Pyrenees.
The house has 2 double, a twin bedroom and a bunk bedroom. The passion flower shaded terrace opens into the large kitchen/dining room. There is a full size gas cooker, microwave, dishwasher and the kitchen is very well equipped. Upstairs the lounge has a sofa and armchairs, log stove and beamed ceiling with double doors leading to the sunlounge/4th bedroom. Also on this floor is the other double bedroom with views over the gardens and the shower room and WC. Upstairs again leads to a safe balcony overlooking the lounge and the twin and bunk bedrooms and large bathroom.
There is a delightful shaded eating area under a large tree with lighting and a brick barbecue.
The four gîtes share the solar heated pool with magnificent views to the Pyrenees, the pool and volleyball/badminton courts, the childrens play area, the library with TV, videos and tourist information, the pinpong, telephone and the laundry.
Perruche du Buis is 4km from the village of Arques which has its own Cathare Castle, Cathare museum, lake, shop, restaurant/café, riding stables, post office and bakery. Couiza, 15mins, has an Intermarché and organic supermarket, chemist, doctors etc. It is at the heart of Le Pays Cathare with its wonderful history and castles perched high on clifftops. Nearby is the mysterious Rennes le Chateau, two spa villages for pampering, dinosaur museum, the AOC wines of Minervois, Corbiéres, Fitou, Rousillon and the predecessor to champagne Blanquette de Limoux. The colourful local markets are full of local produce with a strong emphasis on organic.
For sports enthusiasts there is white water rafting, canyoning and canoeing in the gorges. The hills are wonderful for hiking, riding and mountain biking. There are 2 forest adventure parks for all ages. Tennis in Arques is free for our guests. |
